About the Artist

Dave Hackett is a Wisconsin native who lives and works at his home in Fish Creek, Door County, Wisconsin.

Dave majored in fine art at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee while working as an editorial cartoonist, illustrator and sports writer at a Milwaukee newspaper. While his studies focused mainly in drawing and painting, he was picking up valuable knowledge in advertising art and design while working at the newspaper. As time went on, this is where Dave’s career path was headed.

While Dave was fine tuning his graphic design skills as an art director at two Milwaukee ad agencies he was also developing a style of his own in pen and ink and watercolor, the medias he found most challenging and enlightening.

Thanks in no small part to his wife Carol, who introduced him to Door County in 1957, Dave has focused much of his art on this scenery-rich county for many years. Carol’s mother grew up in Fish Creek and her grandfather was the first superintendent of Peninsula State Park.

Dave has won local, regional and national awards and had his paintings reproduced on a regional magazine four times. He has also been featured cover artist on the Key to the Door Illustrated magazine in Door County. His original paintings and pen and inks are in many private collections.

Dave is available to do commissioned work, from homes and cottages to boats and favorite scenes, either watercolor or pen and ink.

In addition to his Door County art, Dave has developed a series of "community" posters featuring his unique "montage style" of watercolor where he merges images of various historic landmarks and scenes into one composition. These paintings have been reproduced as limited edition prints and feature towns as Ephraim, Fish Creek, Sturgeon Bay, Oconomowoc, Hartland, Menomonee Falls, Cedarburg, Port Washington and Washington County.

Enjoy your tour.
